Hardware Engineer

GNI is seeking a Hardware Engineer to support the U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) Innovation and Prototyping Directorate, Innovation and Prototype Operations Division (DCIO) through the Engineering, Development, Integration, and Sustainment (EDIS) contract. GNI will work with SMC to modernize satellite ground systems for United States Space Force (USSF) operations, research and development and demonstration missions to develop, deploy, modernize, and expand the EDIS program and its customers. The position is located in Albuquerque, NM.

Key Responsibilities:

Conducts research, design, development, and testing of information processing hardware such as computer chips, circuit boards, computer systems, and electrical components.

Designs new or modifies existing products, develops technical specifications for production, analyze hardware configuration and processing solutions, and test hardware conformance to specifications.


Active TS/SCI Clearance

Must possess an active Top Secret level clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance

B.S. degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Hardware Engineering for Space or Missile Systems, Advanced Systems Development, or Ground Systems and Space Operations

Must be open to work across three shifts (Days, Swings, and Midnight) 24x7x365

Understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field and general knowledge of other related disciplines.

Strong background in Microsoft Office Product Suites: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio \

Good understanding of discipline process; information and data management

Contribute to the completion of programs and projects; ability to obtain results and make recommendations

Ability to provide high level summary of results and draw conclusions based on interpretation of data Desired Skills


Network Administrator

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the organization’s server, desktop, and mobile equipment communication networks.

  • Ensure that space mission and data storage networks function properly.

  • Ensure that operator workstations are functioning efficiently and stay connected to the central network.

  • Assist network architects and cybersecurity engineers in designing and analyzing network models.

  • Participate in decisions about future hardware and software upgrades to the organization’s networks.

Required Skills and Education

  • Active Top Secret clearance with ability to obtain/maintain Top Secret/SCI.

  • Bachelor of Science degree with 5 years of systems administration/network administration experience. Additional years and depth of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Virtualization experience (VMware).

  • Experience and certification with Windows Server and Linux operating systems servers.

  • CCNA Security/Security+ ce certification (DoD 8570 IAT Level II compliant).

Preferred Skills and Education

  • Software/mission IT systems formal testing/test tools experience

  • Formal software qualification process knowledge

  • Windows and Linux system administration

  • Agile development concept knowledge

  • Experience in network STIG implementation

  • Red Hat system administration experience

Linux Systems Admin


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management of Information Systems, or relevant discipline and 5 years or more of experience OR 9 years or more of experience in lieu of degree; Or Master's degree and 3 years or more of experience.

  • Minimum 5 years experience performing systems administration on a Linux operating system.

  • Willingness to learn

  • Familiarity with network protocols and network management technologies.

  • Skill utilizing software diagnostic tools and the ability to conduct appropriate troubleshooting processes and conduct appropriate upgrades.

  • Ability to understand the application and utilization of software packages.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, vendors, and database administrators.

  • Knowledge of operating systems, including UNIX, Linux,

  • Ability to research, assemble, and evaluate information or data regarding industry practices or applicable regulatory changes and recommend sound, practical solutions to complex issues.

  • Ability to define systems requirements based on user/client needs, cost, and required integration with existing applications, systems, or platforms.

  • Ability to define technical standards and functionality tests, and to develop specifications, prototypes, or initial user guides.

  • Computer and network troubleshooting

  • DOE “L" clearance to start, DOD “Secret" with reciprocity is acceptable


Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of operating systems Windows, and MacOS.

  • Experience leading and implementing large technical solutions


  • Scripting/Automation experience

  • Virtualization, servers, storage, and networking equipment experience

  • Automation platforms such as Ansible, VmWare, Python

  • ESXI experience
